Privacy Policy

OUR APPROACH TO PRIVACY

- Charter Telecom Inc. (collectively “Charter”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to the protection of personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect data that identifies or is associated with you (“personal information”).
- As a national organization, this privacy policy is designed to meet Canadian federal standards as well as applicable provincial legislation and regulations. We are also bound by the confidentiality as outlined in client agreements.
- Charter may periodically make changes to this Privacy Policy. This privacy policy is current as of the “last modified date” which appears at the top of this page.
- This policy applies to any visitor or customer (collectively a “User”, “you”, “your”) while they interact with content, product, or services with Charter including Charter.ca (our “Website”).
- Before accessing or using our Website, please ensure that you have read and understood our collection, use, storage and protection of your personal information as described in this privacy policy. By accessing or using our Website, you are accepting and consenting to the practices described in this privacy policy.

PERSONAL INFORMATION THAT CHARTER COLLECTS

Charter collects and uses your personal information to operate our Website and deliver the services you have requested (the “Charter Services”). Charter collects two main types of information from you:

- information that you voluntarily provide to us (such as information provided through a voluntary registration process, sign-ups, or emails),
- information that is derived through automated tracking technology (collectively known as “Cookies”).

Voluntary information you provide to us. Charter collects personal information about you when you voluntarily submit information directly to us by filling in forms on our Website or by corresponding with us by phone, email or other means. This also includes information you provide when you register to use our Website, consent to receive email or text messages, place online orders with us, comment on articles or discussion boards, or enter a competition, promotion, or survey and when you report a problem with our Website. Occasionally, we may also request information such as your site preferences, supplementary information for orders you have placed, or demographics which will help us better serve you and other Users in the future. The information you provide to us may include your name, telephone number, email address, billing address, shipping address, payment information, email notification preferences, Website username, and password.

If you choose not to provide personal information, we may not be able to provide Charter Services to you or respond to your requests.

Information We Receive From Other Sources. We may receive personal information about you from individuals or corporate entities which are subscribers to Charter Services where you are designated a User of Charter Services. We also work closely with third parties (including, for example, technology providers, technology vendors, subcontractors in service delivery, advertising networks, or analytics providers) and may receive information about you from them, subject to your agreements with them.

Information Derived Through Cookies. The Website may use cookies or similar technology (collectively referred to as cookies) to serve secure pages to its Users without asking them to sign in repeatedly. Most browsers will allow Users to control cookies, including whether or not to accept them and how to remove them. If a system providing the cookie is unused for a defined time, the cookie will expire, forcing the User to sign in again to continue their session. This prevents unauthorized access to the User's information while they are away from their computer. The User may set most browsers to notify the User if a Cookie is received, or the User may choose to block Cookies with his/her browser. If the User chooses to erase or block Cookies, the User may need to re-enter their credentials to regain Website access.

In certain situations, we may be required to disclose personal information in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet law enforcement requirements.

We may disclose personal information to comply with legal obligation or to enforce to apply our terms and conditions of service and other agreements; or to protect Charter’s rights, property, its customers, its Users or others.
